DOUBLE CHIN PROBLEM AND FACE MASK

There are six different shapes of the face. Which one are you?

It's always been one of life's greatest mysteries to figure out your face shape. Is that round? Is that square? Does that look like a heart? Multiple options can make you spin. But determining the shape of your face does not require a degree of beauty.

There are six main styles of faces, and it's as simple as looking in the mirror and finding answers to a few questions. To help you started, we tapped several beauty experts to break down each face shape's most common features and give tips to accentuate your unique look. You can thank us for that later!

What kind of face do I have?

Determining the shape of your face is as simple as 1, 2, 3—literally.

"The shape of the face is broken down into three parts: the forehead and the width of the cheekbone, the jawline, and the length of the nose. To describe your face's shape, ask yourself, what is the widest part of my face? Is it my cheekbones? You probably have a round face. Is it my forehead? You probably have an oval face," said the famous makeup artist Vincent Oquendo.

First, look at the width of the jawline. "A good jawline generally means that you have a square or rectangular outline of your face. When your jawline comes to a point, you have a heart-shaped face," Oquendo said.

Finally, check the length of your nose. Rounder faces are generally on the shorter side, and the oval faces are usually on the longer side.

Most of us fall primarily into one category or another, but it's entirely possible to have more than one face shape!

"Some can easily tee between two different face shapes, particularly shapes that are not so far away from each other," said Lauren Lebowitz, Glamsquad New York Regional Makeup Expert.

Sure, understanding your face's shape is fun and enjoyable, but does it serve a purpose?

"Knowing your shape of the face can be very beneficial. It can assist you in deciding life's toughest questions about which haircut is most flattering to me? Which makeup will make me look the most natural? And it could just be the answer to finding your favorite pair of glasses," Oquendo said.

Now let's look at the six primary forms of face shapes!

The round shape of the neck

Wondering if you have the shape of a round face? Here are a few facial characteristics that will help you decide:

  • Round face forms are typically very symmetrical. "With a round face design, your face is around the same width and length, and you have around jaw and chin," said Stephanie Brown, master hair colorist at the Eddie Arthur Salon in New York City.
  • Cheekbones are not particularly prominent on the round face.
  • Round faces tend to be triangular and do not have significant angles or corners.

Hair tips for a round shape of the face:

Are you looking to accentuate the shape of your round face? The right hairstyle will make a difference in the world. For example, fairies and centerpieces are pretty darn good on a rounder face.

"The center part with the pieces falling in front of your face will make your face slim," said the famous hairstylist Michael Duenas.

If you're mad at the fringe, try to avoid short, blunt bangs instead of opting for soft, longer bangs (think Brigitte Bardot!).

Volume in the right places is also the secret to a circular face. "You don't need a haircut that gives you definition to your jawline. Volume needs to be at the top of the head. A flattering length is a grown-up bob/lob, "Lebowitz said.

Makeup tips for a round shape of the face:

Makeup can also help to accentuate or downplay some of your facial features. Contouring can work wonders.

"Women should improve their cheekbones, jawline, and the temple of their head to make it seem like they're more polished than they are," Lebowitz said.

Follow these expert-approved tips to contour a round face:

  • Celebrity makeup artist Desirae Cherman suggests hue and accentuation. "Apply the highlights of the powder to the bridge of your nose, the middle of your forehead, and the length of your chin," she said.
  • Applying a highlighter high up on the cheekbones (above where blush is used) can also accentuate bone structure and make your face appear less round.
  • The contour from the back of your ear to the middle of your cheek and blend, blend, blend!
  • Blush can also add a little more depth to the cheekbones. "For round face shapes, focus the blush right on the apple of the cheeks and blend it down and out," Oquendo said.

Eyebrows can also help balance a round face. "Keep the brows straighter and longer with an angled bow. You don't want them to be round at all, "said Cherman.

The square shape of the face

Think you've got a square face shape? You may be right if your face meets the following criteria:

  • The secret to the square face is in the jawline. "With a square face shape, your forehead, your cheekbones, and your jaw will be of the same thickness, but your jaw will have sharp angles to it," Duenas said.
  • Square shapes are similar in appearance to the round face but have a more pronounced, wide jawline.
  • The square face has very minimal curves.

Celebrities with the form of a square face: Demi Lovato, Cameron Diaz, Olivia Wilde, Lucy Liu

Hair tips for the shape of a square face:

Want to rock the shape of your square face with an attitude? Aim for a softy, textured look that hits your face at the right spot. "Steer clear of the length that reaches the jawline and needs your bob to fall an inch or two under the jawline," Lebowitz said.

Opt for a shoulder-length lob (long bob) that extends and flatters your beautiful face in the best possible way. Sideswept bangs and longer, allied pixies are also great for balancing out a square look.

When styling your hair, concentrate the volume on the root, make a more overall oval shape, and go for styles with a lot of texture to add a little airiness to your ends.

Makeup tricks for a square face:

Since your jaw is so stable, you may want to soften your face's edges with a little contour on the jawline and the top of the temple.

"Apply bronzer or blush to your jawline to soften the edges. For square or rectangular shapes, concentrate blush on the apple of your cheek and gently blend up. You can also take any leftover blush on your brush and sweep around your temples for a subtle rounding effect," said Ramy Gafni, a famous makeup artist and founder of Ramy Cosmetics.

When you're rocking a square face, you can have fun with your eyes and lips because your face is already described. "Try a more rounded, smoky eye to contrast the angular shapes. The same thing on your cheeks: swirl a bright pink or peachy hue in a circular motion to cut the angle and give the impression of a smoother, more rounded face. Bright or bold lip color will distract you from a rough jaw," Cherman said.

The diamond shape of the face

Diamond and heart-shaped faces can often seem similar, but diamond faces have their unique features:

  • The shapes of the diamond face have a narrow forehead and a small chin.
  • Your cheekbones will be the widest part of your face, and you're going to sit nice and tall.
  • Your forehead will not be as prominent as your heart-shaped nose.

Celebrities with a face design of a diamond: Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, Tyra Banks, Elizabeth Hurley

Hair tips for the shape of the diamond face:

Hairstyles show off your face's curves or add a little bit of dimension that is beautiful in the diamond mask.

"The chin-length bob is my go-to for diamond-shaped ears. You want a little breadth in your look, so any hairstyle that helps to broaden the jawline is flattering, "Lebowitz said.

Long hair with layers is a great option, too! "It shows off angular features and lets you play with a curly or wavy look," Duenas said.

Diamond face shape makeup tips:

Some makeup tricks can help to intensify and enhance the shape of your diamond face. For example, anyone with diamond face shapes will add fullness to the jaw and the forehead.

"You can do this by emphasizing your forehead and jawline with a lighter base tone," said Cherman. "You can also create the impression of a wider forehead by shaping your brows and creating a wider gap in the middle."

Contouring the bottom of your lip can also soften your nose. "It creates more darkness, thus emphasizing the cheekbones to add more light and emphasis to the middle of the face," Lebowitz said.

Finally, if you have a diamond face shape and want to use some blush, don't go overboard. Just stick to the apples on your cheeks!

Heart-shaped profile

Was it curious whether or not your face was shaped like a heart? See if it meets the following criteria:

  • "The heart-shaped face will usually have a larger, wider forehead, and then the face will be more angled to the chin, ending in a point," said Cherman.
  • Heart-shaped faces are very similar in appearance to round faces, but with a broader forehead.
  • You have a slender jawline, and your cheekbones and forehead are the widest part of your face.

Celebrities with heart-shaped faces: Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Ruby Rose, Lili Reinhart.

Hair tips for the heart-shaped face:

Do you want to flatter your heart-shaped face? Try long side-wept bangs to add an excellent definition to your cheekbones! Or opt for a cut of the shoulder-length with pixie bangs.

"Bangs are working well! The lob with bangs is cool. The trick is, you want to have a cut to match your forehead and chin," Brown said.

Makeup hints for heart-shaped faces:

Are you looking to balance your heart-shaped face? Switch on your makeup bag!

"To soften the appearance of a larger forehead, you can use a bronzer on the sides of the temples and the bottom of your chin. Use a pink blush to accentuate the high cheekbones," Cherman said. "It's always a smart thing to add focus to your lips-think bright colors and shiny lips-because it pulls your eyes away from the jaw."

Those with heart-shaped faces can also use a light eye makeup collar.

Oval / oblong form of the face

The words "oval" and "long" faces are frequently used interchangeably, and for a good reason: a long face is like an elongated version of an oval:

  • The oval / long face is narrower than the short one.
  • You're always going to have a round chin and a jawline.
  • "When the lower half of your faces appears to be wider than the rest, you have a long face. Also, the forehead is normally the widest part of the face, while all the other features remain rounded and smooth," said Cherman.

Oval / long-faced celebrities: Olivia Munn, Julianne Moore, Jessica Alba, Kate Middleton

Hair tips for the shape of the oval face:

Fortunately, the oval shapes of the face will rock almost any hairstyle! Big, short, bangs, voluminous styles — all of them flatter the face.

"The shape of an oval face is any woman's fantasy. I love a chic pixie or a haircut that lets you slick it back. Think of shorter layers with a lighter fringe or pixie combined with a serious side," Lebowitz said.

When you're rocking an oval / long nose, you may as well try a shag or a side-swept pop. They're both going to help split the length of your nose!

Makeup tips for the shape of the oval face:

Congratulations if you have the shape of an oval nose! You can wear almost any makeup theme with ease.

"The oval shape of the face is perfect and can wear any makeup and look amazing," Gafni said. "Long faces will add blush along the hairline and on the cheeks, concentrating on the region above the ears (this produces a wide-open face) and along the jawline."

It would be best if you even tried gently dusting a bronzer on your forehead, under your cheekbone, and on your cheeks' apples.

Fortunately, however, if it's oval, you don't need to call attention to your face's overlooked areas.

"Because the oval face's shape is the most natural, you don't need to over-emphasize it. The thinking should be subtle," said Cherman.

Form of the rectangle face

The rectangle shape of the face is a mixture of two different shapes.

  • "The rectangular shape of the face is a hybrid of the oval / long and square-shaped face. It is essentially a long face with angular edges," Gafni said.
  • The rectangular shape of the face has a square jaw and a longer face than the wide one.
  • You're also likely to have a high forehead.

Celebrities with triangular face shapes: Liv Tyler, Kim Kardashian, Courteney Cox, Meryl Streep

Makeup tips for the shape of the rectangular face:

Apply blush to the forehead's outer edges, to the cheeks, and on either side of the chin along the jawline on softening the edges of the face.

The easiest way to attract attention away from the length of your face is to play your feet. Dramatic, smoky eyes with bold colors or exaggerated cat eyes will make them pop. You can also make your brows a little more round to create a curve on your face. Hold the lips here to a minimum, with fresh pink color to appear more plump and fuller.

Hair tips for the rectangular shape of the face:

It's all about layers, layers, layers, honey! "Whether it's long bangs, soft layers, or anything like that, layers will make a face appear a little broader and less angular," Duenas said.

Like a square face, rectangular faces also do well with soft, voluminous looks with a textured touch. Lobs and bouncy waves are all perfect if you rock a rectangular face.
